ALGONQUIN
To most familiar with Canadian geography, the name Algonquin Park is immediately identifiable. The land that we now know as Algonquin Park—or the Algonquin Park region, roughly spanning from North Bay to Muskoka, to South Algonquin, Pembroke and Mattawa—has only been known that way for little over a century. Though this is its common name today, it has been known as Anishinaabeaki—Anishinaabeg territory—for thousands of years. It is the ancestral territory of Ojibwe, Mississauga, Nipissing, and Algonquin people.
